So today I realized that it was only Thursday… uuugh! I had one of those mornings where I really needed it to be Saturday, you know those? This whole week has pretty much consisted of me waking up, quickly getting ready and grabbing a cup of coffee, and heading straight into my office only to emerge 8-10 hours later with burning, computer soaked eyes. Not the most exciting part of a photographers life, but boy have I been gettin stuff done! Lots of editing, designing, corresponding… you know. Anyway, today my husband came in after checking the mail and threw a soft, squishy USPS package on my lap. Confused at first, I realized I was experiencing the exciting act of getting something in the mail! I mean how often does that happen anymore? I shook it first and then turned it over and saw an Oregon return address that is very dear to my heart… My friend Shirley! So I cracked open the package and inside was this perfectly and beautifully wrapped gift. AKA the sweetest thing ever. I didn’t even know what is was yet, but just the thought of a friend thinking of me and taking the time to do that totally made my day.. even my super boring week. When I opened it up and it was a book by one of my favorite authors, I thought, even better
So I just wanted to post something today about how wonderful and special friends are and how thankful I am for my very dear and wonderful friends, even if we are separated over 900 miles. Thanks Shirley!
This also made me think about how fun it is to just get stuff in the mail! With technology connecting us so easily, it has become such a novelty (and a forgotten art) to send letters. It feels more special now since there is more of a sacrifice of time and resources for someone to send something in the mail. But to receive a physical representation of someones thoughts is really exciting! Almost like being a kid again. Instead of just seeing a bright computer (or sms) screen filled with google ads, you actually get to sit down and touch and feel something, knowing that someone took special time out of their day to get that to you. I really want to start doing that more. When was the last time you sent someone something sweet via snail mail?
