Jen and James | Santa Monica Engagement Photography

Yay! My blog is fixed! Some of you noticed that my blog posts were down for the last week (I screwed something up when updating the site) but my good friend and techno-ninja Chris came and fixed it today so I can continue posting. The internet drives me crazy sometimes but I don’t know where I’d be without it (actually I do… probably on an island, living off the land and reading a lot).

Anyway, I’ve been itching to get this session posted! Jen and James got engaged in November and we’ve been trying to get this session together for a while. Let me just say, it was worth the wait. Jen has been a dear friend of mine for a couple years now, always a voice of hope and encouragement in the midst of big life changes and hard/good times. She is truly a special one. I love her. So does James, A LOT. This man loves her A LOT. I loved watching the way he looked at her, not just as a lover, but a partner, a best friend, a help-mate. I’m so happy for them as they journey into this new and exciting frontier of life together – even if this Spaniard steals her away from me to continents far away. I hope you enjoy their pretty faces!

Emma + Ely’s Desert Engagements | Tucson, Arizona

eeeee, I’m so excited to share this post with you guys! Emma and Ely flew me out to Tucson, Arizona a few weeks ago to photograph their engagement portraits. I haven’t been able to get them up on the blog because, as some of you know, I quickly left for tour with my husband after finishing their edits. It’s has been a wild and wonderful month for Casey and me… started by a shoot in New York, then Arizona, and then heading out on tour together up the west coast. I intentionally didn’t take any work with me on tour… except for when I caved and booked a headshot session in Oregon (but it was so fun)… but no blogging! Which is why you all get to see these pictures now after a couple weeks of waiting.

Emma and Ely are so fantastic and we have become good friends. Emma just glows with beauty, she’s patient and thoughtful and has an amazing laugh, and Ely fits her so well. He is so giving, considerate and a keen observer. We also got to bring in Emma’s horse Pie, and their ridge back Stella who is one of my favorite doggies in the world! It was so fun running around the desert of Tucson with these guys, I can’t thank them enough for having me out for it.

Emma and Ely’s wedding is next week (yup quick engagement) so keep a look out for more desert glory around in a few weeks!

Carly + Robert | Cenral Park Engagement Session, New York New York!

There were so many wonderful things about this session that I could go on forever about! One was that Carly and Robert chose to share their beautiful city with us instead of meeting up for their session on the west coast. They moved to New York together for school and work a few years ago. It was their first big adventure as an “US” and now the city has so many deeply personal memories. They are both runners and have run through Central Park countless times together. Robert proposed on a row boat near one of the spots we stopped for some pictures (bridge overlooking the water). And we walked the streets and shops that they frequent together. Carly is almost done with grad school at Columbia University and in the next few months they’ll be relocating to Boston where Robert works, so this shoot was not only their engagement portraits, but a capture of a very important, and quickly fleeting moment of their lives. I was so honored to head out East and photograph this moment for them, and I can’t wait for their west coast wedding next fall. These two are keepers – such generous and loving people; effortlessly able to crack stupid jokes and laugh like crazy, and then sit and have an eloquent political/economical conversation over wine and cheese a little later. They are so great together, and I’m elated to be a small part of their beautiful lives. I hope their sweetness brightens your day today!

Go Get Engaged in New York!

Casey and I got back last night from New York City, where we flew out to shoot Carly and Robert’s engagement session in Central Park. Man oh man, 2 jam packed days of walking Manhattan in perfect autumn weather… I had a love affair with the city. Carly and Robert were amazing to shoot and I can’t wait to share the full session.

For a sneak peak… They are transplants in the city from the west coast and wanted their engagements to always remind them of their time there. So I tried to give them a few iconic New York shots like a kiss on the Mall in Central Park – mmmm I want to go back!

Amber + Evan’s Edgefield Engagement Session

I’m so excited because I actually get photograph this beautiful couple’s wedding this weekend in Salem Oregon. Casey and I drove up to Corvallis Oregon from Los Angeles yesterday. We are chilling around town preparing for this weekend – I’m here to hoot two weddings this weekend, in record Oregon heat… I have to laugh because all summer as I traveled back and forth between California and Oregon for weddings I complained to family and friends that I was freezing in Oregon’s 70 degree average (that is a guess) 2011 summer weather. Now the weather fairy is back lashing at me… “Oh yeah Lauren? We’ll I’ll just wait till your busiest weekend and SHOW YOU. That’s what you get for complaining.” Lesson learned. Anyway, aside from stocking up on a professional looking pairs of black shorts, prayers that it stays below 100, and hopes that the ceremonies will be in shade, I’m really excited for this weekend. Mainly because these two couples are awesome, and I can’t wait to share their beautiful days with you. Amber and Evan’s wedding is on Sunday and they have hired Casey to sing them down the isle as well as their first dance song, a song called July from his first E.P. (such a beautiful song). So I’m equally excited to see him share in this day as well. I was going back through the blog to share an image from their engagement session that we shot when I was on tour with Casey this spring, and I realized that in all the craziness of tour, their session didn’t make it up on the blog yet. Casey was doing a residency at McMenamin’s Edgefield Manor outside of Portland, so we were staying there for a few days. Amber and Evan drove up from Corvallis to take advantage of the beautiful grounds for their session, and catch on of Casey’s nightly shows. We had a blast exploring all the fun nooks and unique backgrounds that McMenamins specializes in. We laughed, played, and stepped in a lot of mud. But the best part was that we stumbled upon and patch of daffodils which happen to be Amber’s absolute favorite flower and very meaningful to her. I couldn’t have planned that better if I’d tried!
