Evan + Amber’s Deep Woods Estate Wedding | Salem Oregon

Man, there is so much I could say about Amber and Evan’s wedding that would make it seem like some jokester was testing their resilience or trying to throw a wrench in their perfect day. For instance how their photographer broke her foot the night before (ugh!), or how a bad 24 hour flu had swept through the grooms whole family, or the weather that was in the high 90′s, or having an ambulance show up during portraits (long story, but all ended well!). But I have to say – these two were on a different level. Nothing could short change the absolute joy and beauty that came pouring out of their spirits on this day. They had been waiting for this for years – high school sweethearts, with the biggest and sweetest hearts I know. Their love for each other and excitement to be joined together in marriage was so unyielding, no obstacle or unfortunate event could take their eyes off one another. Their ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Deep Wood Estate in Salem Oregon and went off with lots of joyful help from family and friends, lots of laughter, high fives, and secret handshakes. When Amber walked down the isle it was like the world stopped, she was glowing, and I’ve never seen a father of the bride so excited to hand over his daughter to a man that he obviously loves and trusts without a doubt. It was beautiful! The rest of the day was full of fun personal touches (like incorporating their love of rubber duckies on the head table!) and a LOT of dancing, my favorite!

Marcella + Chris’ Paradise Springs Wedding | Monroe, Oregon

Seriously – I had such a fun time at Marcella and Chris’ wedding out at Paradise Springs. I think the main contributing factor to that was that these two ARE so much fun. Another contributing factor is that I am a sucker for a wedding that ends in an EPIC dance party. Love Love Love. Also Marcella is hilarious and full of energy, and Chris is just a cool dude, a total stand up guy. I’m so happy they found eachother! They got married on a hot day in September that happened to land on the Season Opener games for both of our Oregon football teams. Marcella and Chris met at Oregon State where she was an OSU cheerleader so needless to say, the games were running on all TV’s throughout the day and night (however we made sure not to talk about the scores…). All of the day’s details were super classy. I’m always excited to see what the brilliant ladies of Celebration Florals come up with, and Marcella’s calla lilies were perfectly simple and elegant. And this was my first time out to Paradise Springs and I fell in love with it. First, the light is beautiful (total photog nerd out) and I love all of the rich natural forest colors and textures – making for uber luxurious photos. Yum. To you two – I wish you many many years of fun, joy, and impromptu dance parties!

What a week…

I wrote in my last post that I was up in Oregon last weekend to photograph a double header wedding weekend… They were FANTASTIC! Marcella and Chris were such a classic couple, ready to have a blast. And Amber and Evan were so giddy with excitement to be married, their love made me fall in love with love all over again. Below are some of my initial faves as I loaded all of their images up and get ready for the processing —

The only bummer of the weekend was that in the last few minutes of Saturday’s wedding, I managed to break my foot as I was running to get the last few shots of the night. Thankfully it was the last few minutes of the night, and I hobbled to my car and had a bit of a freak out session on the ride home. Once home – at nearly midnight some pretty spectacular photographer friends of mine (namely Emily Bell, Jay Eads, Mark Esary, and Jennie Borello) came to my rescue and helped set me up with another photographer (the amazing Jennie Borello) and an assistant to carry my bags (Mark!) for the next afternoon’s ceremony and reception – since I would be in a cast and couldn’t run to all angles as usual. I loved having Jennie there so much that I have vowed to not shoot another wedding without a second photographer! Having two photographers is such a bonus not only because you get multiple angles of the same thing, but it allows two sets of eyes and two creative brains to get a wide assortment of fun and creative shots. And of course, if anything were to happen to the lead photographer (like a broken foot, or worse, a broken camera!) then there is instant back up. So Sunday morning I drank lots of water, stocked up on ibuprofen, got an airsoft cast and bore my way through 10 hours as a crippled wedding photographer determined not to let my photos suffer because of my foot suffering. And miraculously it worked! I’m probably most proud of Evan and Amber’s wedding photo’s than any other wedding I’ve done. I personally thank a God who is full of provision, and friends who are full of kindness in times of need. I took a few days off after Sunday to rest my foot, and then, in our true style, hit the road again to travel all over Oregon as scheduled. Now I’m back in Corvallis until the end of the month to recover before shooting my last 2 weddings of the season, both of which I’m so excited for!

A Magical Cannon Beach Wedding

K, so I may have gone a little overboard with the pictures in this post, but there were just so many things about this Cannon Beach wedding that I LOVED. Kate and Clint are from Saskatchewan Canada and managed (long distance) to perfectly plan this destination wedding down to the last gorgeous detail. They chose Cannon Beach for their wedding because Kate’s grew up vacationing there every year as a girl. I just loved her color pallet – creams, peach, lavender, sage – which lent itself perfectly for soft, romantic, and whimsical pictures to remember the evening. It was so magical! The ceremony and reception were both in Arch Cape, about 10 miles south of Cannon Beach, with a brief break between to do portraits in front of the famous Haystack Rock. The Arch Cape reception venue, Cove Beach Lodge (contact Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals for info), took the cake for me though. The large 1/2 covered white tent over looking a huge secluded cove made for the perfect setting for their intimate destination wedding. It was a beautiful time watching the sun set over the pacific ocean, feeling like we were the only ones in the world, and then dancing the night away under the glowing skies and the lights of the white tents. Today these two are having their larger reception at home in Saskatoon, and I wish them many many more celebrations of love!

I love photographing destination weddings in Cannon Beach, there are so many amazing places tucked away for gorgeous photos. I just had to share this beautiful Arch Cape reception house with you all, it was like a dream and I can’t wait to shoot out there again someday!
